As Assistant Director for Blood Technology, you will lead the modernization of technologies and deliver infrastructure applications that support the national blood supply chain. You’ll also shape the future Blood Technology strategy, setting a roadmap for ambitious change. We have made great progress in service delivery, moving toward a DevOps model and integrating automation across our Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). However, much remains to be done to fully embed these changes and drive innovation. You will bring a strong background in digital transformation, technical expertise, and program delivery skills. More importantly, you’ll understand that successful digital change relies on the people behind it, fostering a healthy culture that sets every team member up for success. Joining the Digital, Data, and Technology Services Directorate (DDTS) Senior Leadership Team, youll be part of an inclusive group leading a digital transformation agenda across various services, including Organ & Tissue Donation, Clinical Services, and more. We aim to deliver greater value to the NHS through pioneering projects in plasma, genomics, and data-driven services.Main duties of the jobIn this role, you will lead the delivery of blood technology modernization, overseeing both the Product Centre and Programme teams with a budget of around £10 million per year. Your focus will be on developing and implementing NHSBTs Blood Technology strategy, driving improvements that align with Government Digital Standards and corporate policies. Working closely with stakeholders across NHSBT, the healthcare system, and partners, you will define and implement new operating models for Blood Technology. As a member of the Blood Supply Senior Leadership Team, your strategic expertise in digital, data, and technology will help guide key decisions. You will also collaborate with People and Culture Partners to shape the Blood Technology workforce strategy and communication plans. Your role will include fostering a culture of continuous improvement based on Lean and Agile principles, while managing relationships with vendors to ensure service delivery meets business needs. Youll look for opportunities to add value through innovative commercial and partnership strategies. As part of the DDTS Senior Management Team, you may take on additional tasks assigned by the CDIO.
