Would you like the opportunity to help us to develop the integration of Combat Systems and associated sub-systems for future submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer – Systems Engineering at various locations.
As a Senior Engineer – Systems Engineering, you will be involved with progressing the Combat System from a concept design further through its lifecycle, working with our external and internal customers, platform teams and suppliers. More specifically working at equipment and system levels within the Combat System to mature their definition, requirements and integration across the wider system and platform.
This role will provide you with the opportunity of working in a fast-paced programme with a growing team, which would suit an individual keen to grow with it, equally you will work as part of the team but retain individual responsibility being able to investigate and resolve complex design issues.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer – Systems Engineering will involve:
- Resolving a range of engineering issues and problems, compiling technical reports and accompanying presentations
- Providing, reviewing and adhering to specifications in accordance with stakeholder requirements
- Developing business awareness, and building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Required to make judgements based on own knowledge and experience of similar situations
- Assessing the viability and applicability of solutions, evaluates alternatives based on an understanding of common or previous solutions to problems and analysis of factual information
Your skills and qualifications:
- Degree in an engineering or computing based discipline
- Requires understanding of principles and lifecycle approaches underpinning design and development of assemblies, systems, platforms and services
- Requires understanding, knowledge and experience relevant to a specific engineering system, for example assemblies, systems, platforms and services
- Works independently with limited technical direction or as part of a small team
- Understanding of integration approaches, design influences and planning

Integrated Combat Systems:
Integrated Combat Systems is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
Innovation is central to our DNA and has produced the Common Combat System (CCS) to address the customer’s affordability, technology and capability challenges. It is based on commercial off-the-shelf technology (COTS) coupled with bespoke military hardware and software and is being progressively rolled-out into the UK’s Submarine flotilla.
We effectively incorporate rapidly evolving, commercial technology, new capabilities and changes coming from the operational environment into long-term build, maintenance and in-service programmes.
